Questions You May Have
Where do the lessons take place?
Our lessons are divided into two categories: online and in-person. As Somatic Oriental, we offer our participants an online dance studio experience. Most of our long-term lessons are accessible online.
We organize regular dance classes and workshops in Berlin, as well as in-person workshops, retreats, and gatherings in various cities across Türkiye and Europe.
You can follow announcements for all online and in-person trainings on our website and Instagram page.
What are the in-person lessons?
These include weekly studio classes with limited participation, one- to two-day intensive workshops with two to six hours of practice, and residential retreats lasting three to five days.
What are the online lessons?
Our online lessons are divided into three categories: Online Lessons, Video Recording Lessons and One-to-One Sessions.
Live Online Lessons includes all long-term lessons and introductory workshops that take place live at a specific date and time.
Video Recording Lessons contains recordings of all live online lessons. You can access the same content for a defined period and practice at your own pace and schedule whenever you wish. This option is ideal for those who cannot attend live sessions or who prefer greater flexibility.
One-to-One Sessions refer to Belly Dance Therapy®, a therapeutic method created by integrating dance movement therapy with both improvisational and technical elements of belly dance, offered individually by Buse. These sessions are supportive in nature and take place through movement. Although verbal sharing may occur, the main focus is exploring experiences within movement and dance. Sessions last fifty minutes and are offered in limited numbers each month, with priority given to returning participants.
I want to access a specific training. What should I do?
As of December 2025, our website has been transformed into a portfolio page. You can find information about workshops and one-to-one sessions there, but payment and video recording lessons are not listed. This allows us to carry out all registration processes through direct communication.
Simply contact us via our office phone number or email address and state the name of the training you wish to join. After completing your payment, we prepare a personalized invitation link for your access period and share it with you.
Do I need prior dance experience to join the classes?
No prior dance experience is required for any lessons. All lessons are designed to be suitable for complete beginners.
Is it possible to learn and improve through online dance lessons?
Yes, absolutely. As conditions and technology evolve, online spaces continue to expand. The greatest benefit of online training is continuity and when a class is missed it can be made up through self-practice. At the same time, a real-time class atmosphere is created, turning wherever we are into a dance studio. You can join from the closest perspective and repeat lessons as many times as you wish.
I’m not flexible. Can I still dance?
Yes, you can. Flexibility may seem essential for dance but unless you are practicing forms such as ballet or modern dance, it is not a strict requirement. Flexibility also develops naturally through dancing.
How many times per week should I practice?
You may dance and repeat practice every day if you wish. As long as it is not imposed as an obligation, the choice is yours. According to training science, practicing at least twice per week is considered a good minimum.
How can I track my progress?
Growth in dance never truly ends; you begin to feel it. When you apply what is taught in each class, improvement naturally follows. As you give your body time and continue practicing, development becomes inevitable.
I feel my body measurements are not suitable for dancing and I feel hesitant.
It is natural to think this way due to the influence of social norms. Over time, as you become familiar with dancing, you will see that what matters is not body measurements but your capacity to feel your body, and this perception gradually transforms. You may read my blog posts on this topic.
I have a herniated disc in my lower back or neck. Can I still participate?
Yes, with your doctor’s approval. You may even notice relief in symptoms over time. It is important to follow movements patiently and inform us if you experience acute pain. Your sensitivities are always taken into consideration during classes.
